assignment 3 : Birthday card

In this assignment , i have to redesign a birthday card to a local concept. At first , i'm still confused on how to redesign it to a local concept. But after i asked my friends and consult with lecturer , some ideas has crossed into my mind.

Happy Birthday

Birthday is the name given to the date of the anniversary of the day of a person's birth. People in many cultures celebrate this anniversary. In some languages, the word for birthday literally translates as "anniversary". Birthdays are traditionally marked by celebrations including a birthday party or, in some particular cases, a rite of transition.

the process of making a calendar

Christmas is such a wonderful Roman festival or the winter solstice.

In this assignment , my task is to create a calendar based on the season like Hari Raya , Deepavali and many more . So , I’ve chosen Christmas day. I need to design a calendar based on the month the festival fall into.
I’ve designed a calendar with a blue colour background. I chose blue colour because seems that every Christmas there’s snow. Snow define Christmas. There’s are some snowflakes I’ve put into my calendar because want to show people that Christmas is very a shiny day like a snowflakes.
The colour of the font I’ve choosen a red in colour because I think it is a suitable colour to get attention from the other people. Furthermore , Christmas tree is one of the most popular traditions associated with the celebration of Christmas. Normally , an evergreen coniferous tree that is brought into a home or used in the open , a Christmas ornaments during the days around Christmas . That is the reason why I put the Christmas tree in my calendar.

Christmas Day

December 25
Christmas is here! If you celebrate Christmas, what are your traditions on this day? How do your relatives and friends celebrate the holiday? By going to church? Decorating a Christmas tree? Exchanging presents? Singing and dancing? Eating massive amounts of turkey or pie?
On December 25, people around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Some people celebrate by giving gifts. Children may be thanking Santa Claus for new toys. They may also be going to church with their families. Christmas has so many traditions and symbols associated with it, that it's hard to determine exactly how it came to be the celebration it is today. Christmas , also referred to as Christmas Day, is an annual holiday celebrated on December 25 that commemorates the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. The day marks the beginning of the larger season of Christmastide, which lasts twelve days. The nativity of Jesus, which is the basis for the anno Domini system of dating, is thought to have occurred between 7 and 2 BC. December 25 is not known to be Jesus' actual date of birth, and the date may have been chosen to correspond with either a Roman festival or the winter solstice.
Modern customs of the holiday include gift-giving, Church celebrations, and the display of various decorations—including the Christmas tree, lights, mistletoe, nativity scenes, and holly. Santa Claus (also referred to as Father Christmas, although the two figures have different origins) is a popular mythological figure often associated with bringing gifts at Christmas for children. Santa is generally believed to be the result of a syncretization between Saint Nicholas and elements from pagan Nordic and Christian mythology, and his modern appearance is believed to have originated in 19th century media.
Christmas is celebrated throughout the Christian population, but is also celebrated by many non-Christians as a secular, cultural festival. Because gift-giving and several other aspects of the holiday involve heightened economic activity among both Christians and non-Christians, Christmas has become a major event for many retailers.

The behind of the stories

Why i choose this and that ?

The meaning of my logo

The shapes

Firstly, I maintained the shape of the starbucks coffee logo. I just change the picture of the woman to a malay woman. I choose a shape of a malay lady because I want the logo looks like a local logo as what we were told. The hibiscus represent of the Malaysian National flower. The star shape represent the name of “Starbucks” .

The colours

I used only four colours. They are yellow, orange , white and black. I used black cololur because I think it is suitable. I choosed white colour for star shape because white represent as chaste. I choosed orange colour for the hibiscus colour because I think it is nice for flower.

research of my logo

for the first assignment , i need to redesign a logo. only adobe illustrator can be used. in this assignment , i need to localised an international logo. there are several logos for me to choose.

finally, i have decided to choose the logo of the largest coffehouse company in the world which is called 'starbucks'

The Great Starbucks

Starbucks Corporation is an international coffee and coffeehouse chain Seattle Washington , USA. Starbucks is the largest coffeehouse company in the world. Starbucks sells drip brewed coffee , espresso-based hot drinks, other hot and cold drinks, snacks, and items such as mugs and coffee beans. Through the Starbucks Entertainment division and Hear Music brand, the company also markets books, music, and film. Many of the company's products are seasonal or specific to the locality of the store. Starbucks-brand ice cream and coffee are also sold at grocery stores. based in with 16,120 stores in 44 countries.

From Starbucks' founding in Seattle as a local coffee roaster and retailer, the company has expanded rapidly. In the 1990s, Starbucks was opening a new store every workday, a pace that continued into the 2000s. Domestic growth has since slowed, although the company continues to expand in foreign markets and will open a net of 900 new stores outside of the U.S. in 2009 The first location outside of the United States and Canada was established in 1990s, and they now constitute almost one third of Starbucks' stores.

By late March 2008, Starbucks had more than 16,226 stores worldwide, including 11,434 stores located in the United States. On July 1, 2008, the company announced it was closing 600 under-performing company-owned stores and cutting U.S. expansion plans amid growing economic uncertainty. On July 29, 2008, Starbucks also cut almost 1,000 non-retail jobs as part of its bid to re-energize the brand and boost its profit. Of the new cuts, 550 of the positions are layoffs and the rest are unfilled jobs. These closings and layoffs have effectively ended the company’s period of growth and expansion that began in the mid-1990s.

On January 28, 2009, Starbucks announced the closure of an additional 300 under-performing stores, and the elimination of 7,000 positions. CEO Howard Schultz also announced that he had received board approval to reduce his salary to $10,000 per year.
